Grizzly Bear Eating Salmon

grizzly bear eating Alaskan salmon

This grizzly bear goes straight for the caviar – biting right into the belly full of fish eggs.  When fishing is hot, and bears have access to an over abundance of salmon, they will eat only the parts of the fish with the highest calories – the eggs, skin and brains.  Eggs and skin are also high in fat, while grizzlies will often discard the body of the fish.  The left-behind body parts become a feast for eagles, ravens, and gulls.

Of course plenty of fish eggs also end up in the mouth’s of gulls.
