grizzly bear attacks in Katmai National Park AlaskaA grizzly bear mother climbs a high, stone cliff to nurse her third year cub.  Mother grizzly bears often use steep, rocky cliffs and bluffs to protect their cubs from potentially dangerous male grizzlies.  Heavy, large males are not as agile as cubs or female bears, and often cannot follow cubs that flee to safety on high, rocky cliffs and bluffs.
