Male grizzly bear sniffing
A female grizzly with two cubs had just ran off at the sight of this imposing male bear. He walked slowly to the day bed she was just sitting in – which was a shallow hole she had dug in the sand. The male grizzly sniffed and sniffed the hole, processing all sorts of information about the mother bear and her cubs. He wasn’t aggressive, but rather curious, and didn’t follow after the mom and cubs. I was very familiar and comfortable around this male, but this was the closest I had ever been to him! We had been sitting in the sand nearby watching the mother and cubs when he came on the scene. Exchanging eye contact with him was thrilling.
